An excellent summary of Russian failures in Ukraine. I remember hearing a lot about Russia “fixing” the deficiencies in their military post-Georgia, but it seemed that didn’t really pan out. Especially in a technical sense, as you mentioned with precision munitions. Really loved the airpower section, their airpower experience over Syria didn’t really translate to Ukraine…

Certainly back before 2014 I had heard, and believed, the same thing. That post the 2008 war, the Russian military had had enough of a shock from it's experiences in Georgia to decide to properly modernize.

The modernization though only seemed to be in equipment, not tactics, training and the combating of corruption.

Ukraine is not Syria. Russia is always Russia. In my amateur opinion.
